Music scores and papers, 1900-1950.

The Salo H. Goldstone Collection consists primarily of the manuscript musical scores of cantor and composer Rev. Salo H. Goldstone, ca. 1883 - ca. 1951. Most of these scores were composed by him for use in the synagogue, ca. 1900 - ca. 1940. In addition there is some of his published sheet music, 1937-1948; and about 3/4 in. of archival material. The archival material includes a performance poster, ca. 1925, and a business notebook with cantors' addresses, 1950.

Salo Harry Goldstone was born in Tschernovits, Bukovina, ca. 1883. His father was a rabbi. At six years of age Goldstone began singing in cantor's choirs. He continued singing for the next few years as an alto soloist. All of Goldstone's dates are approximate because his 1937 biography (published in the Jewish Ministers Cantors' Association Journal "Chazanuth") contains no dates.
